A bit bit of fearlessness

How adorable is this palette? The cover takes me back to my stiletto using days! The combination ($25) as well as hot pink liquid lippie ($25) are by a little indie line from the SF Bay area called Bossy Cosmetics. Both hail from Bossy’s Power lady fundamentals collection.

My spider sense gets tingly metropolitan Decay vibes from the palette! The shadows are a great deal like UD’s — soft texture, extremely pigmented, with a teeny bit of fallout. I’ve utilized the matte brown, matte black as well as shimmery olive, as well as those shades blend, well…like a boss. Sorry, I had to go there!

I like the name of the pink lipstick — Bravery. Don’t let the flat matte deceive ya either. It isn’t one of those lipsticks that splits into cracks as the day goes on. It moves with me as I smile as well as sing, as well as it feels fairly moisturizing as far as liquid matte lipsticks go. Oh, as well as it’s unscented as well as unflavored, just in situation you were wondering!

Q & A: What Do You look for in a Sunscreen?

Admittedly, I’m asking this Q & A today partly since I requirement the tip to wear sunscreen during the chilly months! ?

So, here’s what I look for in a sunscreen…

That it takes in quickly, since I don’t want to sit there scrubing sunscreen into my deal with for 10 years.

Leaves behind absolutely no white cast!

Doesn’t provide me breakouts.

It’s at least moderately moisturizing.

Layers well with other skin care products as well as makeup.

It has a matte or demi-matte surface (no shimmer, please).

Feels lightweight on my skin.

It is available in a tube or a pump, since I don’t like dipping my fingers into a jar.

Right now my preferred sunscreen is Elta MD UV Clear, since it’s all that as well as a bag of chips! I’ve been using it for about a year now as well as have yet to stray. I do desire it was less than $29…but it works so well that I’m mainly okay with the price.

Merry Christmas, my wonderful friend. I feel like a damaged record since I state this every year, however I still don’t feel like I state it sufficient — say thanks to YOU. say thanks to you, say thanks to you, say thanks to you for being here, for being my makeup sister-from-another-mister, for sharing your life with me. All the highs as well as lows. say thanks to you from the bottom of my glittery painted toes to the ideas of my lashes, as well as from the deepest part of my being.

The world seems to have had fun messing with all our plans in 2020 (so rude!), as well as while it’s been a year of many great moments as well as unforeseen blessings (like all the additional time spent with El Hub as well as Connor), it’s likewise been…well…super weird. Difficult, too. Like, that once-in-a-lifetime kinda difficult that modifications you forever. The optimism that I might when discover so quickly has been shaken to the core as well as challenged in so many ways.

Somehow, though, I’ve still handled to hold onto hope.

I’m feeling it today.

When things feel insurmountable, I look to that sense of hope. It reminds me that we’re still moving forward, as well as that soon enough, much better days will come. hope steadies me, as well as it keeps me going.

How would You explain Your present Hair as well as makeup Style?

pretty much my present makeup style to a “t”
Hmm… Well, of course, the pandemic has changed nearly whatever in terms of how far I’ll go on a regular basis with my hair as well as makeup, however even before March, my hair as well as makeup style were growing increasingly casual. I call it more “easygoing.” I primarily wear neutrals these days (basically since they’re easier to blend than more interesting colors like bright purples as well as greens), with subtle variations on traditional elements, like winged liner or smoky lids, as well as my hair is usually up in some kind of bun or ponytail/braid variation that’s purposefully a little wild with a sleek aspect or two.

I guess that’s one way to explain it… mostly messy (LOL!), with pockets of smoothness here as well as there.

Really, I lean on the classics, however I’ll still make an occasional foray into colorful crazytown.

I really look at old makeup pics of myself as well as am really kind of astonished that I had the wherewithal to do elaborately colorful, fun looks. If I could, I’d go back in time as well as high-five myself for my efforts, ha ha ha!

For now though, I like my present hair as well as makeup style (notwithstanding the pandemic-inspired modifications as well as compromises).

A Wearable, colorful drugstore makeup Look: Navy liner and Lashes With Orange Cheeks and Lips

All the makeup I’m wearing today is from the drugstore.
Totes on a budget beauty kick right now, and everything in this navy and orange look is drugstore.

Budget beauty at its best
I’ve been slowly but surely mining my makeup collection lately and rediscovering old loves. also finding new faves…

Budget brow wow

Case in point: Maybelline’s brow pencil. It’s the one in peach packaging with the angled applicator, and it’s just as good as the $$$ Anastasia brow pencils at Sephora IMO. It has the perfect amount of pigment — enough, but not so much that it makes you look like you’re plotting someone’s demise. Plus, it doesn’t budge! It stays put through long runs, planks and burpie push-ups (so fun…NOT). You’ll find it in four shades for $5.99 each — Blonde, Soft Brown, Deep brown and medium Brown. I wear the Deep brown one. It’s a beautiful ashy brown with a hint of gray.

The ace of budget base

Speaking of affordable, can we talk about this base combo for a second? — Neutrogena Hydro Tint plus Maybelline’s Age Rewind Concealer equals magic?

I’ve been a fan of both products for a while, but I never realized they could be such a great budget-friendly combo for no-makeup makeup.

Hydro Tint ever-so-slightly evens everything out while keeping your skin looking natural, and then I dab and blend a little Maybelline Age Rewind where I want a little more coverage (like on the hyperpigmentation on my cheeks and dark areas underneath my eyes).

The end result looks natural and even (and doesn’t look thick). The two products layer perfectly.

Long-lasting liner for under ten bucks

I’ve also recently discovered some new-to-me things that totally deserve the spotlight, including these Coverigrl twist-up eyeliners, which are available in six $7.99 shades (and currently on BOGO for 50% at Ulta!).

See how the blue sparkles? So pretty! BTW, I’m wearing the long live Lipstick Tee in Papaya from my store.

Saturday Surfing, Feb. 26, 2022!

good morning to ya. How’s your Caturday going so far? Good, I hope. With everything unfolding in the world this week, I’m grateful to simply have shelter and feel safe at this moment, because a lot of people don’t have that best now…

I hope your tummy is full wherever you are. I hope you feel safe, warm and content, and I hope you’re surrounded by people who care for you and love you.

I try my best to keep MBB light and bright because, as I get even more into adulthood (*ahem*), all of the real-world problems feel heavier and heavier, and my hope is that MBB can always be a short-term shelter from the big scaries — a place that feels safe to just prattle on about things that bring us joy, whether it be makeup, cats or pop culture. I hope you always feel good when you visit.

But, as you very well know, in some cases the real world intervenes.

On that note, hi again. Oh, guess what? This girl is going back to Sephora today because I just tried on a few of the new things I purchased yesterday, and they looked funky…and not funky in a good way.

The Ilia very Serum Skin Tint looked heavy and grayish green on my skin (the color I chose was Morgat), the Ilia Concealer seemed just a touch too thick, and the Caliray Mascara refused to hold a lash curl.

Hmm… maybe I’m pickier than I used to be. All I know is I’m still searching for a mascara, concealer and skin tint that sings to my soul.

Rain, rain, go away

I finally got myself a pair of proper rain boots, albeit not by Hunter, or the standard tall style. I have an aversion to wearing incredibly heavy clunky boots – I’ve tried on Hunters and I feel like I’ve got cement blocks on my feet.  So I selected something shorter (I mean, just how often am I wadding in knee-deep puddles in the city?) – they’re waterproof, so they get the job done. I haven’t owned rain boots considering that I was young:

Capelli Matte blossom rain boots w/ ankle strap – $30 from Winners

I’ve worn them a few times now and I quite like them – they’re not too heavy or cumbersome. There have removable insoles and a bit of arch support.  And I like that they’re a bit fun with the print but not overly loud.

Do you rock rain boots? What are yours like?

These are high-rise bike shorts constructed out of soft jersey material.

I purchased a few on a whim to wear beneath gowns in the spring as well as summer, as well as they’re fantastic! They’re offered in a number of neutral colors; I purchased fundamental black as well as two shades of brown.

2. Appointed Notebooks

If you’re into paper goods, I believe you’ll like these notebooks. I got one as a gift from my buddy Kelly as well as now I’m obsessed.

Both the cover as well as the paper inside feel thick as well as sturdy, so it’s developed to last. Plus, you gotta like a monogram!

3. Juice Newton

I’m going with a phase as well as have been bumping her music for days.

I particularly like the part in “Angel of the Morning” when she belts it! Also, her hair in this video is epic.

“Queen of Hearts” will always be my fave, though.

Side note: is it just me, or would “Queen of Hearts” be a fun tune for a punk band to cover? I can completely hear it.

4. NARS Kalahari eyeshadow duo

Oldie however a goodie. I’ve been using it with MAC Teddy on my lash as well as water lines.

Love ya, Kalahari!
5. utilizing resistance bands in leg workouts

I throw a medium or a heavy band on while I do squats, as well as OH, MAMA. I feel the burn!

Operation: J. Lo Booty
The bands make my leg days that much much more effective since they force me to work that much harder, as well as the next day my legs are sore (in a great way).

Saturday Surfing, June 26, 2021! ?

good morning!
Well, hi there, sweet cat ladies and pet dog ladies and bunny ladies and horse ladies and parrot ladies, and all my ladies!

If you saw a plane over your head somewhere around the San Francisco Bay area early yesterday morning, FYI, that might’ve been me waving to you from the sky above. The fam-bam and I got out of dodge — really OUT OF DODGE. We had an opportunity to take a last-minute trip to visit our family on Oahu (El Hub’s parents, who we haven’t seen in two years), so this Saturday Surfing is pertaining to you from the other side of the Pacific.

If you’re a new friend here, hi! My husband is from Hawaii (Oahu), and back in ye olden times before the pandemic, we’d go back to visit that side of the family once or twice a year, but the past year changed that, of course, so it’s been a long time. El Hub is going to be doing some work from here remotely, but he gets to do it from home with the family.

This particular water baby is looking forward to getting sand between her toes and dipping said toes into a warm blue ocean later this morning.
