Makeup and appeal blog Monday Poll, Vol. 688

have a colorful Monday! The red lipstick is MAC fashion Legacy, by the way.

So…what is the Monday Poll?

Excellent question! It isn’t, in contrast to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of five a lot more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007). I love reading your answers, and it helps me get my week off to a good start. ?

1. pick a jewel-toned eyeliner — blue, green or purple?

Purple!

2. Earrings, necklace, bracelet or ring?

A necklace with a very strong clasp so I can’t lose it, ha!

3. For your shampoo/conditioner, pick two — moisturizing, volumizing, smoothing, strengthening, clarifying, heat-protecting, repairing.

Moisturizing and smoothing would be fantastic!

4. ’90s hair or ’80s hair?

Um, both? I guess ’80s if I have to choose one because the era was a lot more curly-hair friendly. In the ’90s, I was regularly battling my natural wave with hair dryers, flat irons and ALL THE heat tools under the sun. It took up an inordinate amount of my time.

5. A shade of nail polish you rarely (or never) wear?

I rarely wear orange nail polish, which is kinda funny to me because I don’t mind donning a colorful orange top or dress on occasion.

6. If you had to give yourself a shot (like, with a real-deal needle), how would you do?

I’d do alright, believe it or not. I’d take a few deep breaths and say to myself, “You can do this, queen,” and that would be that. funny thing is, I hate needles — hate THEM WITH A passion — but when I was pregnant with Connor I had gestational diabetes, and I had to stick myself with a small needle a few times a day to test my blood sugar. The first time was at the doctor’s office when they were showing me how to do it, and I had a full-on anxiety attack! It was not pretty, LOL! but after that day, I was absolutely fine.

7. choose one brightly colored lipstick — hot pink, true red, bright orange or violet?

Let’s opt for a bright, true red!

8. Confetti cake or cherry pie?

Cherry pie, because it takes a lot more effort to chew, and as a result I will eat it slower.

9. favorite place to take a nap?

My living room couch, or Connor’s room. OH! Or in the automobile during long drives. I’m that person in the passenger seat with her mouth hanging open and her head lolling about, ha ha ha. I rarely nap in my own bedroom for some reason, hmm!

Well…if I can discover a set of utilized or inexpensive golf clubs, that is. I had NO concept clubs were so expensive. OMG.

I figured it would be a great method to exercise ye olde social skills (it’s been a while, as well as I’m sorely out of practice). Plus, I would get to be outside!

3. One thing you look for in hair products?

The scent, for sure. as well as I’m getting pickier! I truly have to like exactly how something smells, as well as it has to get the intensity of the fragrance juuuust best for me to like it now. I like a scent to be present, so you understand it’s there, however it can’t pervade my every thought, if you understand what I mean.

4. What’s the very best thing you can do for your skin, IYHO?

Reapply that sunscreen, girlfriend! Do it every single day, as well as don’t be chintzy with it either. I do like it, though, particularly on hot days. It completely takes me back to my childhood!

8. What’s the earliest you can get up as well as still feel good?

Under typical situations — that is, if I’m not waking as much as catch an early flight to someplace incredible as well as tropical — presuming I went to bed at a good time, then 6:30 a.m. is a great time for me.

Technically, I can do 5:30 if I went to bed early the night before, however my body DOES NOT like to do that naturally.

9. have you ever gone on a cruise?

Nah. I get seasick easily, so I’m not truly into being on boats!

Charlotte Tilbury Bitch ideal lipstick

I discussed in my belated birthday gifts publish that I purchased the Charlotte Tilbury lipstick in Bitch ideal with my Holt Renfrew gift card:

I’ve now had a possibility to wear it for a couple of weeks so I can report back on exactly how I like it.

First off, the packaging is just divine with its increased gold casing in a retro ribbed texture – what’s an added benefit about this detail is that the tube doesn’t roll off a table!
The Charolotte Tilbury name is even etched into the upper part of the casing:
Secondly, the shade name is just so awesome.

Bitch ideal is a warm nude pink with a hint of golden shimmer:

The official name of the lipstick is K.I.S.S.I.N.G. fallen From The Lipstick Tree as well as the formula is expected to safeguard from UV damage as well as include antioxidant from the “lipstick tree” (Bixa orellana seed extract).  I would call it a satin finish, not sheer however not high pigment either:

I’ve worn it alone as well as mixed with other lip products – my prefered way to wear this is with Clarins Instant Light natural Lip Perfector.  I discover that the formula applies nicely to the lips with opaque colour as well as feels comfortable upon preliminary application.  As it wears though, I discover myself feeling the bits of shimmer on my lips, as well, I do discover it progressively drying.  When I wear it with the Clarins Lip Perfector, it’s a great deal much more comfortable through the 3 hrs or so wear time.  This is what the bullet looks like after being used for a couple of weeks – see the texture from the shimmer:

In my collection, these are the most similar shades to Bitch Perfect:

L to R:
• Prestige Love & Kisses Lipstick in Kiss Me (LE)
• Estee Lauder Pure color in #01 Crystal Baby
• Charlotte Tilbury Bitch Perfect
• Guerlain Rouge G Lip color in #06 Garance
• Buxom Full-On Lip Stick in Amsterdam

Nothing is precise however the Estee Lauder is the closest – it’s more sheer as well as somewhat warmer.  For me, out of these, I delight in the formulas of the Estee Lauder as well as Guerlain Rouge G over the Charlotte Tilbury – they are just much more comfortable to wear all day, even without the use of a lip balm underneath.  Part of the reason might be the shade I chose having shimmer – I bet the colours without shimmer would feel a great deal smoother.  The colour suits me very well though – I even had compliments on my lipstick when I wore it!

Pros
• beautifully presented
• light vanilla scent
• wearable flattering colour
• opaque formula
• feels comfortable upon preliminary application
• lasts for 3 hrs

Cons
• somewhat drying
• shimmer feels a little gritty

Stash worthiness: 8/10

Have you tried Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks? What are your thoughts?

Sundays With Tabs the Cat, makeup and beauty blog Mascot, Vol. 697

Are you enjoying the big game? Rosie has it on in the background while she does some calculations for a project for SpaceX. So she’s not totally dialed in.

Tabs was the real football fan in the family. Of course, that makes sense, thinking about how he played professional cat football before becoming a kitty supermodel.

He only did it for two years, though. Mind you, he would have played longer if it hadn’t been for an injury…

Still, he won a championship, as he usually did in his various endeavors, and he got pretty famous.

Most cat sports writers consider him to be the best cat tight end of all time.

Rosie is pulling for the Rams, but only because Los Angeles has so many terrific universities, research labs and museums.

Untrieds: Illamasqua Purity nail varnish

It’s been a while considering that I’ve done an Untrieds nail polish post! Today I bring you Illamasqua Purity.

It is described on Illamasqua’s site as:

Peach.

Uh, ok. short and sweet.  To add to this, I’d say this not a soft peach, it’s a bold peach if there’s such a thing. nearly a neon peach.

I get a tinge of anxiety whenever I’m faced with a pastel creme nail polish shade because I know likely I will have a challenge with possible streakiness, bald patches and gooey polish.  But, imagine my delight when I applied my first coat of Purity:

Not quite a One coat wonder (OCW) but not bad! above is shown with just one coat, no top coat. Below is 2 coats, no top coat:

The formula is a self-leveling dream – here it is with my normal top coat (Poshe) applied:

As with all Illamasqua nail polishes, the square outer cap can be removed and the smaller cap inside makes it much much easier to grip when applying the polish.

The brush is on the thinner side but it applies and deposits the polish well – no streaks or unevenness.

Illamasqua nail polishes used to cost $17 CAD (when it was available at Hudson’s Bay, now it’s online from Illamasqua’s site but the CAD pricing is ludicrous at $29.95 each!  Are you kidding me, Illamasqua?)  Each bottle contains 15ml of product and are made in Australia.

Pros:
• Richly pigmented
• Self-leveling formula
• Even, smooth application (amazing, considering the pastel creme shade)
• Chip resistant
• long wearing

Cons:
• Must purchase online only (non-UKers)
• pricey (now even a lot more expensive)

Stash worthiness: 9/10

Untrieds: Revlon ColorStay Bare Bones

I picked this up while Revlon was clearing out the ColorStay Longwear nail Enamel and replacing them with the ColorStay Gel Envy version. I have yet to try the Gel Envy but the bottles look nearly identical and I suspect the “new” polishes aren’t really all that different.

Bare Bones #300 is a slightly yellow / green (khaki?) tinged tan cream shade.  It’s a bit ugly in the bottle but what drew me was that it was an unusual but still neutral (read: work appropriate) shade.  For $3, I thought why not.

Two coats shown, with Poshe top coat.  It applies lighter in colour than what it looks like in the bottle.  In certain lights, the green tinge is not apparent at all.  The formula applied fairly well – first coat yielded some bald spots but a second coat resolved it.

The wider brush is good – not too wide that it’s too broad for my pinkie.  If you look closely at the brush base, it’s actually 2 smaller grouping of bristles, like 2 regular polish brushes side by side.

The polish has incredible staying power – I wore this for full 7 days with my usual base coat (Orly Bonder) and top coat (Poshe).  I had no chipping – and just check out how little tip wear I experienced:

Save for the nail growth at the base and dulled finish, it would still be wearable for several more days (the polish claims to wear up to 11 days).  This is my non-dominant hand but I actually had less tip wear on my right hand, so I’m showing the worst of the two.

Pros:
• non-streaky, self-leveling formula
• unique neutral colour
• wide brush applies nail polish quickly
• longwearing formula

Cons:
• no longer readily available, although I still see it listed on clearance online at drugstore.com and amazon.com
• green tinged undertone may not be suitable for all skin tones, especially cooler skin stones

Have you tried the old Revlon ColorStay or the new Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy nail polishes?

Omnipotent Oils

I’ve embraced utilizing oils for just about every part of my body – from head to toe – for some years now.  I was utilizing oils method before this whole argan oil rage, let me tell ya!  Before argan oil was easily availalbe, I was routinely utilizing rosehip oil on my deal with (I still mourn the discontinuation of Burt’s Bee repair work Serum in Canada).

So what do I utilize oils for?

Nearly made with my Clarins oil! however do not fear, I have a back up.
Face:
Cleansing – present favourite: incredibly Facialist Vitamin C+ Skin Renew Cleansing Oil ($13 for 200ml, Winners) has a thicker consistency with sunflower seed oil as the base however rinses cleanly.  Other cleansing oil favourites include MAC Cleanse Off Oil ($37 for 200ml), Origins clean energy gentle Cleansing Oil ($35 USD for 200ml) as well as Kose Softymo Deep Cleansing Oil (~$17 for 230ml, sasa.com).

Hydrating – Creation’s garden 100% argan oil ($20 for 120ml, Rexall).  I decant this into the Josie Maran argan oil dropper bottle for simplicity of use.  Don’t pay the crazy mark-ups for the Josie Maran stuff – it’s just ordinary ol’ organic argan oil, the exact same as what they offer at the health and wellness food stores.

Clarifying – Clarins Lotus deal with treatment Oil ($53 for 30ml) – seems crazy however I put this on my t-zone at night to assist battle excess sebum – it works! The base is hazelnut oil – I luurve the odor of this – like a spa!

Hair & Scalp:
Calming dry itchy scalp – Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse (multipurpose dry oil) – ($26 for 50ml, drugstores), with macadamia oil as the crucial ingredient, I published about this in my wintertime scalp rescue post.

Taming fly-aways as well as adding radiate – Dashima Hair care hot styling Finish ($25 for 265ml, Korean hair beauty parlor / online), has grapeseed oil in it, this was shown in my wintertime hair rescue entry.

Body:
Moisturizing: Body shop Beautifying Oils ($15 for 100ml, Body Shop) consist of marula oil.  I have 3: Shea, Brazil Nut, as well as Chocomania.  I’m currently utilizing the Shea – Brazil Nut will be next – I can’t wait to utilize the Chocomania as well as walk around smelling like a chocolate bar. [side note: my spell inspect tried to right the word “Chocomania” to “Nymphomaniac”… whut da whut?]

Hands:
Cuticles: Anna Sui nail Treatment Oil ($15 for 8ml, The Bay), as well as Haken important fragrance Cuticle Oil in Cranberry ($7 at Sally appeal Supply).  How adorable is the Anna Sui oil?  It’s a tri-phasic fluid that needs to be shaken up prior to use.

I’m thinking about adding coconut oil in my appeal routine as I’ve been reading about its lots of benefits particularly for the hair.

Do you utilize oils in your appeal routine?  Any oils you would recommend?
