Guerlain delighted glow Pearls of Powder

photo it: a crisp Easter morning. The windows are open, the finches are chirping, and the bees are buzzing. The sun is up and bright in the sky.

How amazing would it be to get up on Easter morning and find a jar of Guerlain Meteorites delighted glow Pearls of Powder ($74) in your basket beside the jelly beans and Cadbury tiny Eggs (yum!)? I’d be like, say thanks to you, Easter Bunny!

(Side note: you can have the marshmallow ? Peeps. Frankly, I don’t want anything to make with ’em.)

You gotta admit, there is something a bit Easter Eggy about this packaging…

These delighted pink, peach and purple pearls are actually a color-correcting deal with powder. All you do is you swirl your clean in the jar, then apply around your deal with to even out any redness.

This came out a few weeks ago with Guerlain’s spring collection, and I can state this much for it — the powder smells amazing. I never get worn out of the violet candy scent.

Unfortunately, the color-correcting aspect doesn’t work well for me (boo!), but I believe it would work much better for lighter lasses and lads with cooler skin tones. When I dust the powder around my face, my skin only looks a bit a lot more matte, but that’s about it.

My peeps (not the candy kind) who like color-correcting goodies like BECCA’s pearly purple first Light primer will most likely get a lot a lot more out of it. Lucky!

Soap & Glory now available at Ulta

It’s a good thing my immediate supervisor is a cat because a lot of human beings would wonder why I’m sitting here at my desk sniffing my arms and hands…

It looks pretty weird, especially when my eyes roll back in my head. I’m pleased I don’t have to describe myself to a disinterested 20-pound tabby.

But if I were to do it anyway, I’d tell him, “Hey, man! I’m wearing Soap & Glory Righteous Butter body cream, and it smells divine!” — just like one of my favorite fall/winter scents, Chanel Coco Mademoiselle (although some gals feel that it smells a lot more like the now-discontinued Dior miss Cherie).

Soap & Glory Righteous Butter
I love this brand, and not only because their products smell remarkable (although that’s a big plus) and their pink packaging is way cute (also helps too!), but also because of the size of the line.

They have a full range of face and bath stuff, and everything I’ve tried works great for my dry skin. I really like their Righteous Butter body cream, their exfoliator, their hand cream (which is on my desk ideal meow) and their foot cream. My skin is considerably less alligator-like when I regularly use them.

Soap & Glory Flake Away
I began to panic a little starting a few months ago when I observed a dwindling amount of Soap & Glory stuff being carried at Sephora, and then one day, it was all gone! Panic much!? maybe a little…

But as it turns out, my panic was for naught because — yay! — Soap & Glory is now available at Ulta!

Homie, seriously, if spend any a lot more time at Ulta, they’re going to have to set up a rollaway bed and a feeding station for Tabs, and I’ll be going even a lot more often now that I know I can get Soap & Glory.

Remember when the brand lowered their prices a few months back but kept the same sizes? (Really, who does that??) I thought that was very cool.

Soap & Glory Hand Food, and Soap & Glory Heel Genius

Next time you’re shopping at Ulta for yourself (or enabling others), check out a few of my Soap & Glory favorites, especially if you like the scent of Chanel Coco Mademoiselle and/or have impossibly dry skin…

You can also find Soap & Glory on Ulta’s website, and ideal now they’re using a complimentary gift with any $25 Soap & Glory purchase. You’ll get a travel-sized jar of The Righteous Butter (offer good Sept. 11 through Sept. 19, or while supplies last).

Purple glitter and macarons

Cute notebooks and steno get me every single time. This month I fed my steno habit/addiction with this glittery purple spiral notebook from Staples and these charming macaron sticky notes from Papyrus.

They’re both on my desk ideal now (next to the cat lady weekly planner I found at Barnes & Noble), encouraging me with their cuteness.

Now I need a purple gel pen to match the notebook! I got the idea from my OB/GYN, who always uses purple gel pens to write stuff down, and I get a little steno envy whenever I see it. LOL!

“Hi, Auntie! I love you!”
I had a quick checkup yesterday, by the way, and got another look of baby Girl.

She’s getting so big! I got to see her umbilical cord on the ultrasound for the first time and heard her heartbeat.

Fri-Yay makeup Fun: glossy Lids and Winged liner

Winged liner.

Sometimes I wanna wear it with eyeshadow; sometimes I wanna wear it with eye gloss.

Yeah, that’s right! Eye gloss — the super shiny stuff, which isn’t known for being eminently wearable, not with that glistening, glossy finish that gleams and beams, but I think it can look super cool when paired with something unexpected like winged liner.

In this look, I love the contrast between the glossy, wet-looking lids and the crisp black liner. It’s like I just got back from charging the waves! Surfer girl meets sassy secretary.

Make the red lip a matte, and you’ve got an unusual, interesting twist on a classic black winged liner-red lip combo.

The best part of this look is that it’s easy to do, which for me makes it perfect for Fridays when my mind is on other things (like pumpkin spice lattes).

Starting with bare lids, just curl your lashes if you need to (mine are pin straight, so this is a must). then draw your winged liner, and tight-line your upper water line.

Wait for the liner to dry, and then apply and pat a clear eye gloss on your lids from lash line to brow bone (I don’t go too far into the inner corner with the gloss; otherwise, it starts to look heavy and a little weird).

Finish by loading up your lashes with mascara.

That’s it! A fabulous Fri-yay look.

What are you doing this weekend? I’m gonna clean the house from top to bottom because — OMG! — El Hub said that he saw a mouse in the kitchen this morning, and I just CAN’T DEAL.

Actually, I’m kind of disappointed that Tabs wasn’t on it, but I guess old man Tabby has been too busy catching up on his beauty sleep…

Nevertheless, I intend to use this as an opportunity to convince the company to hire a younger, friskier, hungrier mouser kitty coworker from the ASPCA. So far, however, my lobbying hasn’t been met with enthusiasm… baby girl and I are the only ones in favor of the idea, boo-hoo.

A research study in whiskers

As a fellow feline aficionado, I’m sure you’ll appreciate this. Tabs takes great pride in his whiskers and his whisker maintenance regimen.

Every night after dinner he oils his whiskers and smooths down any flyaways. It’s one of the things he always, always does.

He may avoid his personal grooming session/giving himself a cat bath in some cases after a truly long, difficult kitty modeling day, but he never neglects whisker maintenance.

A great deal of up-and-coming kitty designs believe that you only have to groom your cheek whiskers, but Tabs disagrees. He also suggests grooming ear tufts, brows (after all, they do frame the face) and toe tufts too.

Here’s a tip: for smooth, long, strong whiskers, don’t forget the fish oil. Tabs suggests copious servings of tuna at least twice a week.

MAC Groundwork + Honey Lust = ? this eye combo
In addition to a few of the requisite “adulting” things I have to do on Saturday mornings, like starting the laundry, watering the plants, getting breakfast started, administering lurvies to my feline overlord, etc., sometimes I really get to slip in some actual fun.

Like today, I played around a bit with a new eye makeup technique I’ve been loving lately.

And, yes, I recognize that I modification favorites sometimes multiples times each day (haha), however as of meow it’s my new preferred eye makeup technique in the whole wide world!

I was influenced by this Instagram video from Alev Karsli, a MAC artist from Istanbul (not Constantinople), Turkey. She does a subdued bronzed glam look on a design that I don’t look anything like at all, however I truly liked the method she used.

You take matte taupe MAC Groundwork paint Pot cream shadow, add a few drops of Mac necessary Oil, mix them together with a brush, as well as apply that directly to your lids.

The MAC paint Pots are dense cream shadows, as well as the oil thins them out a little, making them creamier as well as easier to blend. Plus, the oil adds a subtle glossy surface that just looks gloriously natural.

What a excellent idea! I desire I’d believed of it.

And the fun doesn’t stop there. You can then layer something like sparkly golden champagne MAC Honey Lust shadow (permanent line) on top of Groundwork.

Also, if you want to smoke out your lower lash line, line it with great old bronzed MAC Teddy Eye Kohl. Smudge it out, then blend shimmery copper Amorous Alloy right on top.

Smokey! That’s MAC Teddy Eye Kohl with Amorous Alloy on my lower lash lines.

After I hop off the computer, I believe I’m gonna smoke this out a bit more, since you understand the old saying, “French toast tastes much better when you’re using a smokey eye.”

In other news, here’s some beauty news that caught my (smokey eye) this week…

Warm Vs. amazing Colors: Do You ever wear makeup That Contradicts Your Undertones?

wearing one of the best cool-toned eyeshadow products I’ve ever used, the hourglass Prism Duo (sadly, it’s discontinued!)
GIRL, I do it all the time, but mostly with eye and lip products…and occasionally also with blush and bronzer.

I never do it with foundation, concealer or powder, though. So, basically, no for the big skin products, because they cover such large areas, so mismatches are more obvious. but a green eyeshadow isn’t meant to match your skin color at all. It’s supposed to be different.

I have warm-toned skin, and I love a good cool-toned grey or icy silver eyeshadow. and I’ll wear a blue-based pink lip in a hot second.

I know that some folks won’t ever do it. They avoid colors that contradict their natural color temp or undertones, but I like things that purposefully “clash” sometimes. I think you can use that like a trick to make things stand out more. Plus, I just like the way it looks.

How about you? Do you ever wear colors that technically (according to “the makeup rules”) aren’t suited for your skin tone?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Ugh, I’m getting over a cold, and it hasn’t been the most awesome-est thing in the entire world.

I think I know where I caught it, too. It was at Target (I always seem to get colds at Target) last week. I was walking around getting stuff, and I remember thinking, jeez, we’re deep into cold season, and I haven’t caught a cold yet. I think I’m gonna make it without getting sick!

Of course, the moment you think that, you catch a cold…

I have two words for you: Cold-Eeze. It works.

What’s One thing That considerably changed Your Skin for the Better?

Wearing: nothing
Was it a new laundry detergent? cutting out chocolate from your diet? Drinking a lot more water? wearing less makeup? Trimming your bangs? going to bed earlier? finding a new product? A procedure? A new dermatologist whose knowledge parted the clouds and let the sun shine through?

There are a few things that really helped me, but one right away springs to mind: Kate Somerville Anti-Bac Clearing Lotion, which I’ve been using and loving for years. finding it straight-up considerably changed my skin for the better. Without it, I will break out, no question.

For a little bac story (get it? haha, bad pun), I started struggling with acne at around 11 or 12 and dealt with it off and on (mostly on) for a lot of of my life.

For years, I (thought I) tried everything — every OTC paste, pad and cream; antibiotics (which lots of dermatologists prescribed for acne back in the day), facials — seriously, everything. then in college I ended up doing a round of prescription Accutane.

I don’t remember the potency, but I remember my skin (even my lips) being painfully dry while I was using it, and every pimple going crazy and pertaining to a head at once. It was very uncomfortable, but it worked. My skin stayed clear for several years afterward, but then in my 30s I started getting hormonal breakouts along my chin and around my mouth, and that was rough.

Again, I tried everything I could get my hands on — every new ingredient and product I could find. good old salicylic acid products helped a little, like Clinique’s mild Clarifying Lotion, but they didn’t clear up my skin completely.

What eventually did really help was old-school benzoyl peroxide, but not just any benzoyl peroxide. What worked for me was Proactiv Repairing treatment (the one with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide), which I used for years, but I hated the scent (BP smells like plastic toys to me). I also hated that I couldn’t just go to a store and get it when I needed more. Proactiv had like a subscription system, and they would automatically ship out a lot more bottles of things (and charge me, of course), and I ended up with so lots of extra bottles of things I never used.

Eventually, the mall near my house got a Proactic vending machine, but it was ideal in the middle of the mall, and I always felt odd getting zit medicine with everyone walking around me…

Anyway, Kate Somerville Anti-Bac Clearing lotion was a game-changer. I was a little nervous about trying it because it was a 5% benzoyl peroxide formula, and I’d used creams with that same amount before that dried out my skin, but Kate’s didn’t. It also doesn’t have that funky BP smell, it layers well under makeup, and I can pick it up at Sephora.

I’ve gushed about it before, and I’m sure I will again, because it considerably changed my skin for the better.

P.S. Oh, yeah, and here’s something that considerably made my skin worse.

How to Do a Smudgy liner Daytime Smoky Eye | Tutorial

Ah, smoky eyes… exactly how I love, love, like thee.

I like you for your telenovela-style drama, of course, however much more than that — I like your gymnastic-caliber flexibility. There are so numerous methods to creatively translate smoky eyes, as well as one of my favorites is this daytime eye look with smudgy liner.

It’s simpler than it looks.

No, really! You won’t requirement a quadrillion brushes or eyeshadows. just four brushes — a flat eyeshadow brush, a domed blending brush, a tapered blending clean as well as an angled eyeliner clean — as well as four eyeshadows, as well as for the shadows I suggest selecting a progression of colors from darkest to lightest in any type of completes that relocation you from matte, to shimmer, to satin, etc.

For daytime smoky eyes, I do choose mattes, though, much more than shimmers, since the flatter surface states to me, “Let’s set a satisfying to work on the fourth-quarter TPS reports,” as opposed to, “Let’s satisfy at da club to freak on some hot dudes.”

As for your colors, you’ll requirement a light shade to highlight your brown bone, a somewhat darker crease color around your skin tone or one or two shade darker, a color somewhat darker than that for the “smoke” on your lids, as well as then one more even darker shade to smudge the eyeliner we’ll be using.

For this look, I went with four shades from the metropolitan Decay naked Smoky Palette, namely light beige Thirteen, which I’m utilizing as my highlight shade; peachy taupe Combust, which I’m utilizing as my crease shade; dark brown Whiskey, which I’m utilizing as my lid shade; as well as dark gray Password to smudge the liner.

Urban Decay naked Smoky Palette, $54

If you can’t figure out where to start, just open an shadow combination as well as select a progression of four colors from lightest to darkest.

OK, now that we’ve discovered our shades, let’s smoke this ish out!

I’ve already done my foundation, concealer as well as all that jazz, so onward to the eyes…

1. Prime your lids, then apply deal with powder to them

After priming your lids, buff a bit of deal with powder on them with a fluffy tapered blending brush, going from your lash line all the method as much as your brows.

Seriously, don’t avoid this step! Whenever I do smoky eyes, I practically always begin with this step, as well as I do it for a couple of reasons.

First, the powder takes in any type of excess wetness left behind by your eye primer (or by your concealer or foundation, or whatever you’ve selected to utilize on your lids as a primer), ensuring that the shadows we utilize apply evenly.

Gotta prevent that patchiness, yo!

Second, as well as this is most likely even much more important, the powder will make blending our eyeshadows about a thousand times easier, since it provides us a smoother surface.

Here I’m utilizing RMS charm tinted “Un” Powder in 2-3.

2. highlight your brow bone

With this look, we’re going to begin at the top (just below our brows), as well as work our method down, so take your lightest eyeshadow, as well as pat it best below your eyebrows with a flat eyeshadow brush. We’re doing this to job those brow bones as well as make them look much more prominent, as well as we do it right here since when we contour our crease in the next step, it’ll enable us to utilize less product.

3. Contour your crease

Now, to deepen the eye, tons that exact same flat eyeshadow clean with your contour color, as well as pat it into your crease. utilizing a flat eyeshadow clean for this assists you location the color precisely where you want it in your crease.

Next, switch out that flat eyeshadow clean for a domed blending brush, as well as smooth out the edges. You want that crease color to fade into the brow highlight above it.

4. apply your smoky shadow to your lids

Now tons up that exact same flat eyeshadow clean you utilized earlier with your selected lid shade (and don’t fail to remember to tap off any type of excess powder, since you don’t want rand-o bits of dark shadow after effects ending up under your eyes), as well as pat it from your lash line to just barely into your crease.

Next, smooth out the edges with your domed blending brush, drawing the shadow up into the crease.

OK, this is where things can get tricky. We’ll have to pay close interest to our clean placement; otherwise, we’ll end up with a block of dark eyeshadow from our lash line to our brown bone, which isn’t what we want.

You’re aiming for a gradient that goes from darkest at the lash line to lightest at the brow bone, so you get that traditional puff of smoke around the eye.

I like to begin my blending with my blending clean pointing down, as well as blend good as well as tight along the edge of that lid shadow utilizing small circles to soften the edge.

Aftersmoothing that edge, I flip the clean to ensure that it’s pointing up now toward my brow bone, as well as I draw that color thoroughly up into the crease.

You’ll most likely have to utilize several layers to completely blend out your edges as well as produce a smooth gradient. I typically requirement three or four.

5. Line your upper lash line

When your lids are sufficiently “smoked,” it’s time to intensify that smoke even much more by lining your upper lash line with a dark pencil. For daytime smoky eyes, I like grayish black pencils or brownish black pencils, instead of pure black, since I believe that black liner is a bit much more nighttime dramatic.

The liner I’m utilizing right here is metropolitan Decay Crave, a dark brownish black.

6. Smudge your liner

Now, softly smudge out that liner with your second darkest shadow utilizing an angled brush.

7. Tightline as well as line your water lines

Totally optional, however utilizing the exact same pencil, you can tightline your upper lash lines here, then line your lower water lines, however you can completely avoid this step if it’s not your thing.

I typically do it since I like the additional oomph, as well as if liner unintentionally ends up on your lower lash lines, just make it part of the look by smudging it with the angled liner clean (with no extra product on it) you utilized in step 6.

8. tons up on mascara

Finally, let’s wrap things up with a neat bow by packing up our lashes with mascara. right here I’m using my reliable Chanel Le volume de Chanel.

The final look

Now you’re all smoked out as well as prepared to deal with whatever comes your way.
