Korean beauty Haul

continuing with “Hauluary” (full credit history goes to GymBagMakeup for this term!), I bought a lot of Korean beauty products – this haul consists of an on the internet order in addition to a see to a regional Korean store.

There’s a new Korean beauty kiosk inside the regional Korean grocery store that brings TonyMoly stuff among others so I had to pay a visit.

From online:

Etude House Dr. Mascara Fixer mascara base – $8 ea X2
These are replenishment for my new-found HG mascara base.  Love this stuff!

Etude home Dr. Lash Ampule as well as Serum Set – $20
Based on the positive experience of the mascara base, I decided to give their lash serum a try. This looks appealing based on the on the internet reviews.

Etude home Skin note Hydrogel Mask (Brightening Up, Deep Moisture) – $5 ea
I have yet to try these newfangled sheet masks made of hydrogel – they’re rather expensive usually ($10+ per mask) however I saw these for $5 each on the internet so I’m providing them a try.

TonyMoly Panda’s dream Brightening Eye Base – $8
Totally bought this because of the packaging as well as all the hype. who doesn’t like pandas?

Holika Holika Baby Silky Foot One shot Peeling foot mask – $7.50 ea x 3
These are a guilty enjoyment of mine!  They make the skin on my feet peel off like a snake moulting, as well as leave them as soft as a baby’s!  I’ve gotten my SO hooked too.

From the Korean beauty kiosk:

TonyMoly Pocket Bunny damp mist – $14
I’ve wished to get this for ages as well as it appears like they altered the bottle style recently. I recalled the bunny was more like a bit woman with a bow (it seems that version is exclusive to Sephora now).

Donginbi Red Ginseng gleam pillow BB #23 Calm beige – $45
This is my very first ever pillow BB! I’d never heard of the brand Donginbi however I was advised that it’s a high high quality line focused on red ginseng.  I was hesitant however this brand seemed to be truly premium as well as not as well overpriced. I’d been truly delighted before when I tried a higher end BB cream so I am providing this a try.  I like that it includes a free refill!  I likewise got a 20% discount rate on this item.

Tony Moly Eyetone Shimmer single Shadow in S04 Latte brown – $5.50
This looks so much like Shu Uemura’s eye shadows however rather inexpensive, I had to try one to see exactly how the formula is.

TonyMoly Professional Powder clean – $15
This has a nice shape as well as made from soft white goat hair.  I likewise truly like exactly how the handle as well as ferrule are matte black.

The finest part about Korean beauty hauling? Samples!

I truly enjoyed buying at the bit kiosk – the woman who helped me was knowledgeable as well as practical however not pushy. Are you a fan of Korean beauty products?  Have you tried any type of of these?

Beauty things to Do before the new Year

I do my hair toss, check my nails…
On this last day of 2021, truth be told I’m not feeling the usual sense something ending and something new beginning. In the effort to impart a sense of newness for 2022, today I plan to a few beauty things so I can at least try a little to feel like I’m starting fresh, and yes, of course I have a list!

Beauty things to do before the new year

Wax my upper lip hair.

Pluck and trim my brows.

Put on a mega moisturizing hair mask, and leave it in while I watch the new episode of “And just like That.” Man, I know I said I wasn’t going to get sucked in, but at this point I’m already invested and don’t fee like I can get off this train, ya know?

Paint my fingers and toes. I’m thinking OPI’s I’m Not really a Waitress.

Do a body scrub.

Style my hair! I’ve been throwing it into a messy fun bun all week long. It’s time to actually do stuff to it!

How about you? Do you have any beauty tasks lined up for this last day of 2021?

Oh, thank you so much for all of your ideas for hobbies. I’m still not sure what hobby I’m going to choose, but I did manage to start reading a new book purely for pleasure today (“Klara and the Sun,” a science fiction story by Kazuo Ishiguro, who won the 2017 Nobel prize for Literature), which is a start.

Enjoy the last day of this year!

P.S. TGIF!

Project pan 12 Collab: The end

What an epic journey! When I first agreed to do project Pan, I thought it was going to be FUN. Oh how wrong I was. This is the song that went through my head (sang to the tune of “The song That never Ends“):

This is the Collab that never ends
It just goes on and on my friends
I agree to doing it, not knowing what it was
And I’m wearing the same makeup for 3 months because…
{repeat from top}

I’m teasing. I did take pleasure in doing project Pan, especially doing it alongside my collab buddies!

And I’m really pleased of myself for sticking to these products and diligently using them 5 out of 7 days, at minimum.

I’ll do a similar closure to this project as my last one; I’ll give a rating to each and then estimate the probability of me actually finishing each product before I toss them out:

Week 1: Sephora Jumbo liner in Brown
Starting weight: 0.020 Ending weight: 0.011
The length of this pencil was 10.5cm at the start, and I sharpened it 4 times during the 12 weeks and the length ended at 8.4cm.
Stash worthiness: 9/10
Likelihood of finishing: 75%

Week 2: Anna Sui eyebrow color Compact in Ash Brown
Starting weight: 0.088 Ending weight: 0.086
Stash worthiness: 7/10
Likelihood of finishing: 25%

Week 3: Shiseido Luminizing Satin face color in High Beam White
Starting weight: 0.112 Ending weight: 0.112
Stash worthiness: 10/10
Likelihood of finishing: 5%

Week 4: KATE Stick Concealer in natural Beige
Starting weight: 0.022 Ending weight: 0.021
Stash worthiness: 9/10
Likelihood of finishing: 90%

Week 5: Guerlain Rouge G Lipstick in Garance
Starting weight: 0.072 Ending weight: 0.071
Stash worthiness: 8/10
Likelihood of finishing: 50%

Week 6: The Body shop Fresh nude foundation in 020 Bali Vanilla
Starting weight: 0.221 Ending weight: 0.185
Stash worthiness: 8/10
Likelihood of finishing: 95%

Week 7: Lancôme Khol in love eye liner in chocolate Affair
Starting weight: 0.009 Ending weight: 0.006 (I think? The scale refused to show a weight when I tried to photograph it so the last known reading was at 0.006)
The length of this pencil was 9.8cm at the start, and I sharpened it 3 times during the 12 weeks and the length ended at 7.2cm
Stash worthiness: 8/10
Likelihood of finishing: 0%
There’s no chance I’ll use this up because I’m tossing it considering that the pencil is dried out and loose from the wooden casing.

Week8: NYX Powder blush in Taupe PB11
Starting weight: 0.046 Ending weight: 0.046
Stash worthiness: 8/10
Likelihood of finishing: 20%

Week 9: Bourjois Java Rice loose Powder
Starting weight: 0.073 Ending weight: 0.068
Stash worthiness: 7/10
Likelihood of finishing: 60%

Week 10: MAC Powder blush in Cubic
Starting weight: 0.066 Ending weight: 0.066
Stash worthiness: 9/10
Likelihood of finishing: 10%

Week 11: MAC Eye shadows in All That Glitters, Patina, Satin Taupe, Romp
Starting weight: 0.108 Ending weight: 0.104
Stash worthiness: 10/10
Likelihood of finishing: 75%

Week 12: Cargo HD pressed Powder #20
Starting weight: 0.169 Ending weight: 0.159
Stash worthiness: 9/10
Likelihood of finishing: 100%

Notes:
• I achieved a huge accomplishment: I actually hit pan on an eye shadow! It’s so silly, yes I know. but it’s not!
• only 1 item will be tossed at the conclusion of project pan – the Lancôme eye liner

• The item that showed the most significant weight loss / usage was TBS Fresh nude foundation at -0.036  Just look at the bottle – woohoo!
• and let’s be real, I’ll likely never ever hit pan on the blush, the contour or the highlighting powders!

If you missed any of the project pan 12 posts, they’re all available here.

Please check out my project pan friends for their final updates:
• Ingrid of Curly.Spring.Blossom
• Jodi of A Brash Attitude
• Chanelle of Chanelle Hayleyyy (Chanelle will be posting hers next Monday!)

Thank you so much for following project Pan, and for all your support throughout! I’m free, I’m finally complimentary of my makeup jail!

PP12: Bourjois Java Rice loose Powder

Today I’m showing a product that sat collecting dust in my makeup drawers for years:

The Bourjois Java Rice loose Powder:

I got mine in 2013, in an anniversary set that contained a bunch of products, and it stated that it was limited edition:

But I guess this product proved to be popular because it’s now available alone, for about $16 for a 3.5g jar.

The Java Rice Powder is one of Bourjois oldest products and for their 150th anniversary, they reinvented the product with an updated packaging based on the original vintage style:

Source.
Bourjois claims:

A delicately scented feather-light powder that lights up and smoothes complexion in one step. Its radiant and velvety finish right away creates a youthful glow. One translucent shade is universal and lights up all skin tones.

I got this powder specifically to use as a setting powder for under my eye area since it has a tint of pink and a slight iridescence to it. It’s terrific for highlighting but doesn’t perform too well in preventing concealers from creasing.

Lately I’ve been mixing a bit of the e.l.f. HD Powder with the Bourjois to set my under eye and the combination has been working really well. The e.l.f. HD Powder is basically a really finely milled silica powder. But, it can leave the skin looking dull and flat. The Bourjois powder adds a luminosity back to the skin.

I use the Clinique Eye shadow brush to apply this to my under eye area.

Side note: The Clinique brush is way too big to use for blending eye shadows on my eyelids. See it how compares to the MAC 217. It is quite soft and fluffy so it’s good for use under the eye area.

It’s difficult to swatch powders like this. I took probably 10 photos trying to capture the sparkle.  The e.l.f. HD Powder is like Photoshop for your face.
The Java Rice Powder is only offered in 1 shade, and even though Bourjois claims this is universally flattering. I don’t think it would work on olive or dark skin tones – it would look ashy since it does have a pinky white base.

My last ditch effort to show the sparkle. Please don’t pull some CSI wizardry and steal my fingerprint.
I have tried to use this as an all over powder on my face but I find it too glowy. It’s better served as a highlighter for targeted areas – I especially like this for inner eye corner and cupid’s bow (upper area of the lips). note that this has no oil control properties whatsoever despite it being called a rice powder (unlike the cult product Palladio Rice Powder paper). I honestly don’t understand the name of this product… java rice? It does contain rice powder, but java? But, it was named 150 years ago, so who knows…

One of the best things going for this powder isn’t actually the product itself – it’s the container that it’s housed in. It has a sifter that can swivel and close up the holes. I have it set so that only one hole is exposed, so very little product dispenses (and even then, it’s way more than I need!) I’ll think of that I could travel with this container if I wanted to. You bet that once this powder is finished, I’d reuse this jar!

To use this, I tilt the closed jar upside down to get some of the product onto the lid. Whatever is on the lid is how I much I need to set both eyes.
Another thing I really like about this powder is purely superficial – it smells so nice! apparently the Java Rice Powder has the same fragrance of the little round Pot blushes. To me, it smells soft and floral… “Powdery Rose” is what I’d describe it as.

Ingredients:
Mica, silica, talc, CI 77891 (titanium dioxide), boron nitride, caprylyl glycol, phenoxyethanol, p-anisic acid, CI 77491 (iron oxides), parfum (fragrance), potassium sorbate, hexylene glycol, oryza sativa (rice) starch, caprylic/capric triglyceride, CI77492 (iron oxides), lauroyl lysine, CI 75470 (carmine), hydroxycitronellal, tin oxide, cinnamyl alcohol, eugenol, benzyl salicylate, linalool, evernia prunastri extract, citronellol, geraniol, amyl cinnamal, alpha-isomethyl ionone, hexyl cinnamal, rose extract, 12BMT010-1

For vegetarian / vegans out there, this product does contain carmine which is crushed beetle scales. Yup. YUM.

This product is made in Italy.

Pros:
• subtle finish
• Blurs lines and adds luminosity
• vintage looking packaging
• Well designed dispenser
• Soft scent

Cons:
• messy loose powder
• Colour may not be universally flattering
• Not suitable for those who are sensitive to fragrance

Stash worthiness: 7/10

I’m not sure what happened between last week and this week but I weighed this 6 times and still got this measurement, which is 0.002 less than last week. I didn’t eat any of this, I swear.

I’m so pleased to see the MAC eye shadow quad went down again!

Please check out my project pan pals for their updates:
• Ingrid of Curly.Spring.Blossom
• Jodi of A Brash Attitude
• Chanelle of Chanelle Hayleyyy

Do you set your under eye concealer? What do you use?

Stash Dash: Dec 4 – 10

The weeks are just accelerating, aren’t they? I’m kind of glad. I cannot wait for 2016 to be over!

If you’ve been too busy with making a list and checking it twice, here are the posts that went up last week:

Trash Stash: November 2016

My trash stash isn’t just only about empties, sometimes I show things that are gone from my stash; for instance, I re-homed these items!

November 2016 Low-Buy Accountability

Even though I went over my monthly allocated budget – I’m proud that I’m still holding myself accountable!

Swaps are great to try new things and I am so happy that I got to try these Kiko products!

Nuworld everyday Zen: Jasmine Aroma Diffuser and Oil Blends

This makes for a great gift idea… OR, if you can’t wait, just pick it up as a gift for yourself!

Schtuff

• We saw the movie “Arrival” last week – I didn’t know much about the story line going into it and I ended up really liking this movie! It’s a sci-fi film that’s not really about sci-fi stuff – without giving too much away, the movie asks viewers fundamental questions about freewill and fate. This might be one of my favourite movies of 2016.

• cat and I met up on Tuesday for some shenanigans! We each had 2 large glasses of white wine sangria, on a rainy Tuesday night:

That’s cat in the background there.
• last week we also recorded a new episode for the podcast which will air this coming Thursday – our guest is local jewellery designer Daniel J. of earth Elements. It’s another fun episode talking about random things but with an injection of a male perspective!

• Look, I did finally hit pan on my project pan item, the Cargo HD pressed Powder!

I was just a week too late…

Blogmas stuff from last year:

Blogmas Day 7: favourite Christmas Songs

Blogmas Day 8: diy Stardust Jewellery

Blogmas Day 9: Christmas Sweets

Blogmas Day 10: holiday party looks

Oh man, re-reading that post makes me want to buy a Barbie! This year’s holiday Barbie is this:

Meh, kind of boring. The tops look crocheted? I still prefer last year’s better.

And, if you want to get to know more about me, here’s a very personal post I wrote for Blogmas Day 11: Christmas Traditions:
